The Diva Cup--A Low Waste Product We Should Be Talking More About. Period.

April 25, 2018

The Diva Cup:
a low waste product that we should be talking more about. period.

Hi folks. This Wellness Wednesday we're going take you on a journey out of your comfort zone and discuss a topic that still remains relatively hush-hush. And while this article may be geared towards women, we urge everyone to read and get informed!

Today, it's all about The Diva Cup, a relatively new product on the market meant to enhance women's menstrual health and experience.

Why Do We Care?
Many women of reproductive age who experience monthly periods can attest to the discomfort and massive expense of tampons and pads. In fact, the National Center for Health Research states that over $3 billion is spent annually on women's sanitary products! Beyond this, there is ongoing concern and debate over the impact of tampons on our health. Currently research is working to further examine the presence of harmful chemicals in feminine products, as well as the connection between usage and Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS). With all this, combined with the sheer fact that it contributes significantly to our product waste, it is no secret that it can be an overwhelming hassle.

Why The Diva Cup? (And no, this is not an ad)

We at Nourish are excited to share with you a potential alternative to the current products available. If you have not already heard of the Diva Cup, we're here to break it down.
As described by the website itself, it is a "reusable, bell-shaped menstrual cup that is worn internally and sits low in the vaginal canal, collecting rather than absorbing your menstrual flow." And while this may seem different, and perhaps weird for those used to traditional feminine hygiene products, many women actually find there are many benefits to using the diva cup, including, but not limited to:

  • 12 hour leak protection

  • Made from silicon, making it comfortable for all body and flow types

  • Eco-friendly and helps eliminate waste from other feminine products

  • Doesn't contain harmful chemicals, latex, BPA, dyes, colors, etc.

  • US FDA Approved and verified as clean & safe

  • Cost efficient and will save you money in the long term! (woo-hoo!)

Now, of course--we are always of the belief that our bodies are completely unique. Whatever method of feminine care makes you the most comfortable and the happiest, then do it! However, if you have felt like your current method is just not working for you, getting educated on alternative ways to make you feel good in your body is our top recommendation. The Diva Cup is a safe, limited-waste, effective product that yields many benefits. We urge you to test it out and see if its right for your body!
